The one I posted is in Seacroft, which has a very bad reputation, but a lot of the housing looks fine.

Ah yeah. I normally drive through Seacroft when I go to Leeds. I've never left the main road though, other than to use the Asda. Are the big tower blocks that I pass in Seacroft?

Random one. I was in Beeston once years ago with my Dad, and noticed every house had a metal caged gate in front of the front door. Also, I went into a corner shop and bought two packets of monster munch, and one of the packets was completely empty! It still haunts me now! I was too scared to go back to the shop though...

Yeah these areas have REALLY high burglary rates. It's a bit hit and miss though. This is in Beeston and it's not too bad: https://www.google.com/maps/@53.7648...7i13312!8i6656

Loads of Spaniards, Italians and Portuguese in the UK. It's sad that they'll find it harder to move here when we leave the EU because I think they contribute a lot to our country and I love seeing and hearing them while out and about. I bet most Brits would be find if we had open borders with places like Spain and Italy.
Not that many thousands but yeah still a siginficant amount.

It is true that the UK became the number destination for Southern Europeans and it was a shock to them when the leave result won. Many EU citizens are afraid but I doubt that the British government wants to expell them from the UK as other EU nations will not throw their British residents out.

map I made of the NYC area. % of the white non-hispanic population that has a bachelor degree. A bit different than an income map, which often reflect age of workers and how many workers in a household, and education reflects type of jobs (professional vs blue-collar or small business owner). Just white people, so it controls for minorities are often less educated.

classic donut pattern. Very educated center city than a ring of minorities and/or working-class and then middle-class suburbs. South shore Long Island is more blue collar; Westchester to the north of NYC the most educated. Zoom in of the city

Spoiler

blank areas have few white people or just no people.

In Sweden it's easier to say where educated people "don't live" rather than where they live. There are plenty of people without degrees in nicer areas, but not the other way around that's for sure.

Paris shows the same distribution as London. Apart from Seine-Saint-Denis, suburban departments have lower homicide rates than inner Paris. I suspect it might be the same in other countries, including Finland.

A lot of the sprawl down here has very narrow roads with no sidewalks, partly because of the terrain but not only. The Riviera is much more car dependant than Paris and it shows.

This is in Nice:
https://www.google.fr/maps/@43.70644...7i13312!8i6656

Though no sidewalks on flat terrain either:
https://www.google.fr/maps/@43.68851...7i13312!8i6656

More urban locations have them, but they're often very narrow and surrounded by huge fences or hedgerows. Not very pleasant to walk on.

As everywhere, upscale areas are more heavily treed:
https://www.google.fr/maps/@43.58287...7i13312!8i6656

Took this road today, driving through the sprawl often feels like driving through a forest. Large lots and a lot of trees:

Mobile home neighborhood:

https://www.google.fr/maps/@43.63913...7i13312!8i6656

Kind of a suburban center:
https://www.google.fr/maps/@43.67620...7i13312!8i6656

More established suburban center:

Rough road surface. Places like this are for people who want a detached house but don't have the means to live next to the coast.

As for the ghetto, here it is. As the local saying goes, if you've got your car stolen, chances are you'll find it there.

Yup, and immigrants means these plus those born abroad who have acquired the French citizenship.

As for recent southern European immigration, as F18 pointed out, it is quite established and the large numbers of Portuguese, Spaniards and Italians residing in France are not at all a result of the recent crisis (and to say the least France itself is in a less than ideal state right now). That being said, I know of quite a few recent Portuguese and Spanish people who are currently working in France after finishing their studies here. No Italians though. Is there a place where estimations about internal European migrations are gathered?
