I used to have the opposite perspective as well. But forget about that. Having Italian ancestry, and being a native English speaker, it's more satisfying to think about Latin influence on English. Got the Greek covered too, having ancestry from Magna Graecia.

This area was part of Mercia for a while, so I accept the old Anglo-Saxon traditions.
