I think it would still be surprisingly cold in the eastern U.S. The source of the frigid cold is much further north - air coming from the west is already relatively mild. It's air coming from the north-northwest that brings the frigid cold, and the inland sea, if it was located that far south, wouldn't moderate that air as it fell down through the Great Lakes.

It would probably have a similar effect as the Caspian Sea but on a larger scale. The winters in the area will be a lot cloudier since most cities on the Caspian Sea are very cloudy in the winter.

I don't think so, an inland sea on that scale would moderate us significantly. Don't forget, the airmass has to go south before it reaches us so it would definitely give us moderation, maybe at more northern latitudes in the east such as new England that won't be the case.
