Ed points out an irresponsible tweet by NortheastWeatherWx that showed the NAM model showing Hurricane Jose slamming into southern New england and attaches images of wind at 5000 feet without mentioning what the map shows!!
Beware of these wanna be kids that do this. And he's got 6000 followers. No need for this.
I used 850 mb winds to estimate wind strength on high White Mountain summits... probably not of interest to most others
I always use 850mb winds, but I dont say a storm will slam into an area and show 100mph winds and not say what level. Unless he thinks all his followers understand that. It was a reckless fear mongering tweet that called for attention and retweets. Probably why he got thousands of followers.
With Harvey/Irma I saw a lot of jumping the gun and even downright misleading/incorrect information from sources, some of which I have respect for. Granted they weren't weather-focused sources, but still, it only creates unnecessary panic.
