I don't use the calendar seasons, most people don't. Imo, winter is from November 21st thru March 10th. That is generally the coldest 25% of the year. Summer from June 1st thru Sept 30th, being the warmest 25%, leaving the shoulder seasons (middle 50%) from March 11th thru May 31st (Spring) and Oct 1st thru Nov 20th (Fall)
Interesting way of looking at it; I guess I never would have said Phoenix had more winter than any other season, but I like your methodology.
The seasons as they seem to run around here:
Winter: 1 Nov-10 Apr
Spring: 11 Apr-15 Jun
Summer: 16 Jun-30 Aug
Autumn: 31 Aug-31 Oct
This year, though, meteorological autumn has been excellent, probably one of the best on record. Let's just hope we don't have a nice December and January and then turn to tripe in Failbruary like in 2015 or 2016.
How I'd ideally like the seasons to run:
Winter: 16 Dec-15 Feb
Spring: 16 Feb-20 May
Summer: 21 May-10 Oct
Autumn: 11 Oct-15 Dec
A taste of winter (but one that doesn't last until May), spring about a month ahead of average, a nice long summer with 80s well into October, and autumn about a month behind average.
