Yesterday's icy westerly gale was absolutely horrific - even more so in wind tunnel areas in the CBD
The lack of "NW" days has been outstanding as well as the lack of frequent clear days as is normally expected for this time of the year
Not one day has exceeded 25C and several sites are running between 1 - 1.5C below average except for the usual urban - heated sites of the city and airport
Not once have I ventured outside without a jumper and jacket because its still too cold to take them off.
One site in the west has already exceeded its average rainfall by 105% and with more rain forecast for Sunday and Wednesday - looking great indeed
Lawns very green and lush as ever

BTW Einstein - you're now on my ignore list. No further need to see your inane and frequently fact-free maunderings on Sydney, Wellington or anywhere else - not that I have even bothered to watch the last 90% of the Wellington thread anyway. No doubt it contains the usual false assertion of being the "windiest city in the world". Goodbye and good riddance.
Certainly not the case here re clouds - the SW quadrant of the NI is massively in deficit for sunshine so far this month.
Just 52 hours of sun in 17 days with four days exceeding seven hours and nearly 50mm of rain falling since 9am yesterday - lucky you
Not so lucky with the wind though with N/NW gales reaching 117km/hr on Friday and 119 km/hr yesterday (Saturday). Today's (Sunday) readings have yet to come in.
Meanwhile my brother in Invercargill said it has been a bit more sunnier than usual, looked up the daily sun data and the (manual site) month to date data (ending 17th) stands at 85 hours. Also much less rain - or showery for want of a better word - continuing the dry weather from August.
June, this year with 110 hours (nearly 40 hours above average), was unusually sunny (by their standards) with the 1946 record of 103 hours broken and the fifth occasion that 100 hours has been exceeded - 103.2 in 1946, 100.0 in 1974, 100.6 in 1994 and 100.9 in 2006.
