Well I'm Irish/English ancestry and the guy sitting next to me is full 100 % Italian ancestry. I'm the older one on the left. What skin type am I?

I would say 3 from that picture, though best way to tell natural skin tone is to stand outside in full sun. Yall both look about same skin type. He looks like he is about to cry though. You also look insanely happy, I remember thinking you were short and grumpy yet your tall and very happy!

I'm just trying to work out the random redhead reference. Not being as pale as ginger guy amounts to having "olive undertones"?

Skin type isn't the same as complexion. No matter how much you tan, you'll always be the same skin type.

I was always really pale because I wad a basement dweller. On the summers, I slept until 3pm, and by then the sun here literally does nothing, so even if I went out with friends, I wouldn't tan at all. I was always seen as very pale. Then we went to mid-southern France, and after a week there I was actually darker skinned than my best friend with italian ancestory (dark type III on the verge of type IV), and he was way darker than me before we got there.
My veins on my arms are green (but more blue and purple right on my wrists), and when I am pale I have a greyish, ashy yellowish tone, kind of like if I were sick, moreso than the reddish white that most other people get. I'm still not as green in the undertone as my friend though.

The not-pinkish undertone is the most common here in Italy too, and that's why the most of us prefer their look when (a little bit) tanned than completely untanned: that undertone makes really you look like a sick person when you are completely untanned, while a little tan is considered as an "healthier look."
