Sydney currently running at 8.5 hours of sun per day so far this month. Today was pretty sunny too, and the rest of the month looks to be following suit. This is almost certainly the sunniest July on record, and possibly one of the sunniest in general both in terms of average and percent possible. I would've preferred a cool drizzly cloudy month tbh.
Ditto re the last sentence. Absolutely dreadful! Knowing Sydney, next month or the month after could be the total opposite
I don't think you would! It's averaging less than 5 hours of sun per day this month and it's downright depressing not to mention it's rained here 22 out of 26 days this month.
Beautiful...sighs... sounds like March...deffo missing that month
"Icy westerlies" sounds like a drink ("hi, I would like two icy westerlies please"). I wonder what its ingredients would be and how will it look like. Lol.
Oh god no! Anything but that! I'd sooner have two beautiful rainy S-SE drinks
Totally agree. Canberra has more to it than the name and inland location implies. Spent several weekends there. Very 1980s - with some "older" areas dating back to the space age - in many respects.
Telstra Tower - on Black Mountain - was the source of endless mirth/jokes between me and my mates. Loads of interesting museums and perfect for escaping the East Coast summer humidity/Sydney rat race.

Of course. Also windows are never to be opened during such icy W flows. I want monster ECLs - August 1986 and 1998 for examples - and feverently hoping for this to happen after this ridiculously dreadful dry and sunny month. If it wasn't for the mid month event dumping of 40 -50mm, I would have rated this month a zero out of ten.
Do you realize that these events are potentially deadly?
And I still don't get why you hate the sun so much in the winter. At least you can warm yourself up in the sun when these cool winds are blowing? Cool, cloudy, SE days are no better. Tell me, how will these days "warm" you up (especially when you're against "icy" conditions)? No heat source, no sun...you get the picture.
July record high officially broken at Renmark Airport, 26.7C as of midday.
update, christ the wind's really picking up, just had a 60km/h gust on my PWS which is strong considering it is 2m above the ground and sheltered from the wind by trees.

Well, Renmark Airport has broke its official July record. 27.6C high today, smashing the 26.0C record, although the airport station has only been operating since 1995. The old townsite station's record of 28.6C is well and truly safe. My PWS got to 27.0C.
Interesting to see Melbourne only getting to 17.9C, I would've expected it to get into the 20's without breaking a sweat considering the origin of this airmass is the same and with those strong northerlies. 4PM 850hpa temps were 13C here vs 11C in Melbourne.
