There are some climates that are classified as Csa, but the winters a bit too cold to be truly considered as Csa, and then there are some climates that are a bit to wet in the winter to be considered Bsk.

So here some typical Csa climates:

Malta

Los Angeles

Perth

Now these are the Csa climates that are a bit too cold (similar to how NYC is too cold to be Cfa, even if it technically is)

Walla Walla

Medford

Tashkent

Yreka

And then there are some Bsk climates that are way to wet in the colder half of the year.

Tehran

Zanjan

And this is what I think of when I think Bsk.

Yakima

And then this is your typical Dsa climate.

Bishkek

Considering how rare Dsa climates are, should those Climates be instead classified as Dsa?

Walla Walla, Tashkent, Medford and Yreka are all grimly Csa. Definitely on the cool side, but winters are still pretty mild and average over 0C so I'd say pretty solid Csa. Zanjin barely has winter highs above freezing and averages -3C. Also with only 315mm, it's a clear semi-arid climate. If it weren't, it would be Dsa.

I'm surprised you consider Yakima to be a typical BSk as it's very dry with only 210mm/8". Seems close to BWk for me. I think 12-16" would be typical semi-arid.

I'd agree on Bishkek being a typical Dsa. For me, Bishkek has an amazing climate and I haven't found a better one outside of North America.

So why is South California considered Csa, if it only gets about 14"?
