Hello, I'm new here. I'm from Jakarta which is tropical and we don't have any variations in terms of currents, weather and etc. The only thing that vary here is Rainfall. I've been wanted to ask this question, how do ocean currents affect the climate?
For what i can see, Western Europe has much more milder climate for it's latitude due to gulf stream, its also moderate the temperature in southern usa such as Miami. But how the northeast, mid-atlantic of usa and southeast of canada that also passed by the gulf stream, could get much more colder and snowier winter.. How is it possible? Also the summer there are hot and humid.. This confuse me a lot. I mean not just usa get the warm current, the east asia also have the same and their have similarities though they're more stable.. Anyone could explain this detailed.. Is there any components that create this things both in east coast and east asia???

The Gulf Stream is tilted eastward, as is the general trend of ocean currents. East coasts are more effected by the interior, whereas the warm Gulf Stream air hits Europe and not Canada.

The sea does play a role though in causing heavy snowfall in all of eastern Canada, so it's not that simple. The small islet Sable Island outside of Halifax also has a very maritime climate due to its relative distance to the continental air masses.
