If you had asked this question 4 or 5 years ago, Chicago would have won no contest. For some reason, most of the cold lovers who were on this forum have largely gone. Now all we have is a bunch of boring palm-obsessed morons who aren't interested in the weather as much as they are interested in tender plants.

Lol, seriously.
Sometimes it seems as if this is a ****ing botany forum instead of a weather forum.
The way people go on about Chicago winters on here, you would think it's -70 F there all the time.
If you ask me both Chicago and Minneapolis are still warmth dominated climates. Sure winters are cold but thats it, outside of those 3 months of winter they have mild climates. Hell I think most of the East Coast from NYC down has what I would consider mild winters most of time.

What I have noticed is that many warm lovers love palms, their love for palms is what brought them to weather. Im an exception because I didn't have any interest in palms until people on this forum started talking about them.

As far as "warmth dominating" I'm not too sure about that, both Chicago and Minneapolis see a lot of warmth and cold weather throughout the year. I would say Minneapolis is pretty damn close to a quintessential four-season climate, with cold, snowy winters and warm and humid summers.
However, I would easily say climates like KC, STL or DC are warmth dominated since the severity of summer is way more than the severity of winter.

I see that too, I guess you base it on severity of winters vs summers, I base it on months of the year. Reason I say that is because take minneapolis, by march they average 41/24, not a cold average. Minneapolis is very close to a perfect 4 season climate that you see in cartoons.

I choose Marseille because it has liveable winters. I don't like to go with 2 coats outside, a heavy scarf and to be heating all day long my house during 4-5 months because it's too cold outside.
Marseille hasn't got a super very special climate suitable for palm trees... just "common" palm trees can be there for their winters, they got cold winters for my likings, in overall their winters are quite cool (12ºC maximums on January, 5ºC minimums... that's not warm or mild, that's cool). That's not a climate for palm tree lovers, go to Monaco or Barcelona if you're a palm tree fan. I think that it's just common sense. Why someone would choose to have such cold winters as in Chicago? Damn, I was raised in Rotterdam with a lot of humid cold, Chicago is even colder... I remember heating my house for 4-5 months...

Yeah, weather came first for me as well, but my climatic preferences and subtropical plants kind of go hand and hand for the most part. I always loathed cold, was indifferent towards snow, and loved thunderstorms and heat.

If Chicago didn't have livable winters, people wouldn't live there.
You sound like a sensitive flower. Toughen up.
