E. My sister-in-law lives there. I've only visited in the summer and the sun angle at noon is too low. The -30F/-35C with 15 knots of wind does it for me.

F. I think any climate that the elderly couldn't survive without electricity is a F. There are many dangers to the electric grid going down. Not everyone has a young, strong, and healthy adult child round to go forage for fire wood and chop it.

In terms of Bemidji, they do have a reliable grid and most people live within the city limits. In rural areas, alternative heat sources are more common, and locals plan for winter and potential issues months in advance. I would say areas further south that get far more freezing rain events have greater concerns with losing electricity for longer periods of time compared to that area of MN.

Well a Northerner could come back and say that if you've lived in it past retirement you've already adapted

This is possibly where I will be later this year. While I like cold winters, I guess this might be something that will come to a shock to me. I suppose I can adjust. Though the snow amounts seem quite low for how cold it is. I won't be able to properly rate this until I live there for around a year and experience the extremes this place offers.

C.

Winters could stand to be snowier. Summers are too cool/wet for my liking.

Winters need more snow, but otherwise a very good climate.

A great climate, a solid choice for those people not bothered by cold, snow, and with a pleasing sun angle- unlike most of the US. A grade A for sure, all day, every day. I would fit in with my sizable percentage Finnish ancestry, but I'm thinking Bemidji is more of a mixture of Norwegian and German with a sizable Native American percentage in Beltrami county. I saw a position opening come up to the southwest of there in Alexandria, a nice small city with plenty of lakes.

Okay after some experience of the cold, I would have to rate this climate an A-. Main issues would be the dry winters so far as it is certainly quite dry. The the temperatures actually aren't too bad, although those bitter cold lows can happen, but it is typically just the coldest few lows of the year. So yeah an A-.
