hmm. Early May feels warmer as I'm comparing it to weather from the prior couple months. Also, sun is a lot higher. Early May is about the same as early October. May 7: 67°F/42°F. October 6: 66°F/41°F
May and October have very similar averages here (86/71 and 86/72 respectively) very similar precipitation also, 6.20" on average in May vs. 6.40" in October. But like you said, May feels hotter because the sun is way stronger and coming out of cooler months.
These are the current temps at 10,000 feet. No way for the surface to warm up with a cold airmass like that above in the Northeast. The sun will have to do its thing to get us into the 60s here.

I saw the highest elevations (around 10,000 feet) got a bit of snow today. Looks like the Adirondacks might get a few flurries; the Whites less. But the very peaks:
An upper-level low pressure system will continue to plague New England with unsettled weather conditions over the next 48 hours, with more wintry weather entering the forecast across the White Mountains region. As the broad low pressure system slowly approaches from the west, colder air will begin to wrap in on its southern side, sending temperatures falling through the 20s across higher elevations.
I like the word choice of "plague". 48°F in the valleys at 1600 feet, which is rather cold for May. Summit at 30°F and dropping. Also impressive jump in humidity Saturday morning followed by a fast drop
Noticeably humid for a few hours, then felt like it changed seasons.
