One of the most impressive Arctic airmasses since last year I think.

Current 850mb temps. WOW! ! -30C or colder under the Blues/Upper Low. You don't see this even in Quebec this time of year.

Looks like a tilted trough.

Zoomed out

Current temps..

The most impressive thing is that the Jetstream is relatively flat! Looks like its around Oregon now, in 2014/2015 that jetstream was like in Alaska and the Northwest Territories. If this happened in the last three years and that jet dipped in Quebec like it does now, it's be like 70s in Seattle and 80s-90s in the Great Plains, not this year

-35F low temperature Mount Washington with a -87F wind chill, impressive cold air aloft for March.

This is insane, we won't get above 60 till sunday... next week.. luckily no snow in forecast anymore and lows continue to warm... this is pathetic considering our average high is in the 60s.

That's a staple of transitional seasons in North America.

No, not extremely unusual for Lancaster, NH in Coos County. They've seen low temperatures well below -30C in March before. The official observation station, Mt. Washington Regional Airport in Whitefield, and Berlin Airport in Milan are routinely some of the colder locations east of the Mississippi River in the US.

No, that's a staple of below average months.... not normal to go 10 days straight below normal in any month...

You just had the warmest February on record. Surely you knew the pattern had to flip sometime.

I know it had to, doesn't mean I want it to be cold. Hope April is warm though I doubt it.

And that flip won't last too long. Not according to the CFSv2.

GFS much slower at expelling the cold out of the eastern US

Euro seems more in line with the CFS I think
