Yeah, not to be rude, but pretty much anywhere with basic weather knowledge knows Eastern Turkey is quite cold in winter.

I think most people are flabbergasted by how mild Moscow actually is in the winter.

Yeah, definitely one of the most "overrated" places in terms of winter cold. Up there with pretty much any Scandinavian capital, Anchorage, Denver, NYC, and other places that people highly exaggerate how cold they are.

People think of Moscow as cold, because they are cold by English&French standards, and Western Russia can get some good arctic cold shots in the winter

Sure, but just like most weather stereotypes, it's highly exaggerated.

Good point on the cold waves though, Moscow can get some serious ones although nothing like further east in Russia (obviously).

I know I am!

The weird thing is Moscow wasn't always quite so mild.

Look at old climate normals and you'll see much colder average winter temps. Amazing.

Has warmed up more than 5 degrees over the last 30 years or so.

Weird thing about recent global warming is that some places have warmed significantly,
while other areas not so much.

Even in my country it varies a lot, Calgary, for example, 1981-2010 winter averages are
a few degrees warmer than 1961-1990 ...even significant warming since 1971-2000 normals,
eastern Canada only has experienced slight winter warming....nothing like Moscow!

Another area that had warmed like crazy in Phoenix, AZ and Las Vegas,NV ....
mainly the lows....farther east in SW USA only very slight warming,
in fact average highs in Albuquerque are cooler 1981-2010 than 1971-2000!

I think everyone here knows that, it's not surprising there is also Gyumri in Armenia. "Average" people tend to make so many stereotypes (not only about climate).

Moscow is quite bipolar in terms of cold in winter, more so than here, and just a few degrees colder generally. Eastern Turkey is cold because of elevation and all regulars here know that elevation impacts climate so yes

Then there's the Stockholm UHI which is something else
