A few days later I hiked in Umstead State Park. It still looked a lot like winter.
A recently fallen tree.
A nice bridge.
Cool, my peach tree lost all blooms but the leaves were just fine and my peach is now fully leafed. Things are pretty green now though. Oaks are leafing out as is every tree now! Those trees you posted pics of are probably fine as I have seen similar that are just fine. Only tree that was seriously negatively affected were the hickory which completely defoliated.
Where are you at that cherries are just now blossoming?? Our blossomed end of January which was earlier than normal by 2 weeks.
Yup, April is the month of cherry blossoms here. This year we're slightly ahead I reckon given the mild temps. No wonder yours are much ahead of ours, after all I'm at the latitude of Timmins, ON!
At this point I would say that, here at my place, winter 2016-2017 has been snowy only at high altitudes (1500 m or above). Here at low altitudes we saw really little snow, and right now we spring is coming out with insistence.
After a beginning of March with temperatures above average all over my region and 3 really rainy days*, this is the view from my windows this afternoon:
Really green grass, flowers everywhere, and we are starting to see some little leaves too. The white trees in the background are wild cherry trees, that are making a lot of white flowers.
*it snowed too, but only above 1500-2000 m.
