Thanks! My photos were from the same weekend (or maybe a couple days after?) you went skiing in Vermont

No surprise you see wildlife and right at your feet to boot. lol. Friendly bird or maybe hoping you had food for it?

That's my favorite. How heavy was your bag? Looks loaded and you weren't camping out in the mountains, right?

I umm, tried to hand feed it. I've seen other hikers do so I wanted to try. From last March on Mt. Pierce

Spoiler

this guy refused to eat off my hand, so I dumped my food onto the ground.

Dunno. Too heavy. 10-15 pounds? Nope, wasn't camping.

Hmm. I think you can change the setting on the control panel, I changed it to 1100 pixels or so. 900 pixels is too narrow for most modern monitors, IMO; but it's the software's choice.

European-looking car (econobox? ). Would you say there are more and more of them around?
I thought it was still too big to look European looking. Depends on the region of the country, but I think hatchbacks have gotten more common in the last 10 years though not the norm. Maybe the popularity of SUVs made hatches more acceptable as they're shorter? I know the Ford Focus sells about as many hatches as sedans.

Geez sounds like an awful hike! I'm not sure if the fairytale-like scenery would offset the cold + strenuousness of hiking in deep, fresh snow for me. At least looking at your photos we only get the positives. I assume you had mittens? How long did it take for your toes to get nearly numb? Never got to the point where my fingers or toes go numb, only to the "intense pain" stage. Must be distressing getting cold extremities when you know you're far from the car. At least it was warming up during your hike.
Hmm. Didn't feel like fairytale scenery when I was in it. My toes were cold at the start, as I said my car never heated up, and then got somewhat worse. Odd thing was my hands weren't cold, didn't use mittens much of the time. Maybe my circulation is poor, or my boots too tight? Or sun hit my hands?

F.I.N.A.L.L.Y!!

108 hours straight without sun.

Winds gusting to 25mph from the NW.

Chilly air, so the firewood gathering continues.

Day #.... ahh forget the count. Just piles around now since March 9th

March 29, 2017. 8am.

March 29, 2017. Finally Sun and 50s! 53°F

From a distance everything looks bare still, so lets get some close ups.

Bradford Pear. Looks like they are ready to open any day now but its probably 2-3 weeks away from blooming. No 60s temps in sight.

Weeping Cherry. Still a while. This tree has beautiful pink blooms.

Swamp Maple. Not the bigger tree, its a smaller tree in front. Buds still small but its giving the landscape a reddish tone everywhere. Lots of Maples around.

Magnolia. There was more growth in February then March.
Good choice to shut down after learning from last years late freeze. lol. They look far from opening.

White Birch. Interesting buds.

Color!! I thought I was color blind after this long crazy cold snowy March. Snow piles still around.
