Here, in Aurora, ME, 74F Degrees, Dew Point 54F Degrees, Winds WNW 9MPH, Clear and past the gloaming....
The Cricket Symphony was our playlist today, at Birch Meadows....with brief moments of Fledgling Blue Jays and Gold Finch calls to one another...The Grackles and Red-Winged Blackbirds have moved on and left the other birds with more food to forage....
Charlie, The Chipmunk was seen gorging himself under the bird feeder...We laughed every time he popped-up his bitty head, to verify his surroundings and the safety of his perimeter...
Mariah blew today and brought a thundershower and lightening...(just after I removed the washed clothes that were dry)...It rained hard and I placed buckets under the gutters to receive the precious water, and watched, in astonishment, as the Thunderclouds moved on and a clear, bright, day appeared...Thus, more laundry on the line...
I stood in the sunny Meadows (next to the clothesline), absorbing the warmth...deep down into my soul....
Sunset arrived and with it, the closing of the day, the drawing of the drapes and slumber calls...
Farewell, Memorable Weekend!
86 F with a 77 F dew point at FLL, 87 F with a 75 F dew point at HWO as of 9 PM. Very sultry outside right now.
don't think we've reached a dewpoint that high this summer. Can't remember mid 70s even, though must have happened briefly. Usually we get 77-78 dews a couple times a year, generally during or right after a strong thunderstorm after already humid weather. Remaining summer seems too mild for it to happen. Dews forecast to be upper 50s tomorrow, mid 60s Tuesday producing a chance of thunderstorms. Wednesday-Thursday hovering right around 60°F. Rather average and not variable. I remember another August with dews going down to 50°F some day mixed in with high humidity days reaching 70°F.
Hopefully we follow that 1915 analog through to next spring. Decent fall that was followed by a top tier winter in the NW. January 1916 averaged -4.3C(24.3F) in the Vancouver area.
It would be catastrophic for the people who think the NW is immune to severe cold waves in winter. Most winters in recent decades have been pretty mundane; while last winter was fairly cold, it was by no means historic.
For example, December 2016 averaged just under 1C at Vancouver International Airport(YVR). In fact, just recently in December 2008, we had similar temps as it was only a fraction of a degree warmer than this past December. The coldest month ever (records at YVR date back to 1937), January 1950, averaged under -6C!
Apparently Vancouver just had its first rainfall in weeks... good for clearing all that smoke and heat
