80% chance today here, let's see if our luck continues.
Last year we had 14 storm days so it's not always this bad. Storms when they happen can be surprisingly spectacular here, both in terms of cloud structure and lightning activity. Compared to what I've seen in Melbourne it's chalk and cheese. The extra heating and freedom from maritime influences like seabreezes and low level cloud etc really shows.

Here is a lightning show from last year in Mildura (same climate as mine, 140km east of here).

Update through the end of May according to the NWS.

January: 0
February: 0
March: 1
April: 4
May: 5

Total: 10

A lot of those just had a few rumbles and many of them I didn't even know had thunder. So far there's been 3-4 good thunderstorms.

For those of you unsure, A shelf cloud is what comes first before the storm. It can look stunning and threatening but usually has more bark than bite.

For Long Island, and this entire area, late afternoon & evening is when we get most of the storms.

Always interesting seeing PA start to get them early afternoon and then you know we get them here couple hours later.
