My hypothesis is that it's a person who is adventure/thrill seeking, someone who likes scary amusement park rides, intense action movies with lots of explosions, and similar activities and proclivities.

Thunderstorms and much of the above make me anxious and nervous, not to mention the physical danger and property damage risk from thunderstorms, so I can't relate to the appeal at all. But apparently some people like them.
I'm not any of those things in your hypothesis and I love thunderstorms, I get excited, I love to look at the lightening, when it's safe, the wind is what causes the most damage here, natures pruning. Yes trees have come down. There is usually clean up.
We have scattered thunderstorms all summer and have had some this month.

Yes in 2016 I think I heard zero l.strikes in Maisons-alfort
But sometimes it's very violent, in july 2013 i left for holidays going to Pyrenees in night and went through a Derecho, it was hell to drive but a total firework.

But Paris is not a good place for Thunderstorms lovers, ofc.

The video is ultra true, I heard a similar lightning in La Rochelle, this sound is exactly the sound of a positive lightning, it's impressive and makes everything shaking, specially windows!
Ordinary ls are BS compare to this ^^ unfortunately I officially heard 3 of them only in my entire life...
A whole year without thunder would be unheard of tho. Apparently the weather station at Orly airport reported thunder on 12 separate days in 2016, mostly in late spring, but anything from a single distant rumble to an overhead supercell counts. Normal count would be around 20-25 IIRC. I wish a count of decent overhead storms was held, but then again we'd have to define what a "decent" storm is. The count would be much less.

And yea the video is definitely legit, the fake comment was relative to SoCal reputation as a thunderless locale.

Roger

Well yea 2016 was a bad season at least around Paris. I hope this year I can finally hear my dear + lightning the sound is so weird and powerfull

For cali, I just checked impacts maps and damn....thats true it looks like thunderstorms are quite rare, even more than in Paris. I find it very surprising ?! How come ?

Got 90mm of rain in two hours from a thunderstorm in January. Where I live, the Jan average is 20mm. This may not be spectacular for people who live in thunderstorm prone areas, but here, where storms are scarce, any event is interesting.

Thunderstorms are one of the only reasons I like warm summers. I have come close to getting struck twice and while it does make me more respectful of the dangers associated with lightening, it doesn't make me like the storms any less.

Its a myth the rods "attract" the lightning so it hits the ground instead. The rods just gives the Lightning a lower impedance path to the Earth.

No matter what you install or do, lightning is uncontrollable...

I agree with Stitch227. My wife is terrified of storms, especially lightening! It does cause so much damage!!
