Every summer in Phoenix is a hot one. Just this one is just that little bit more brutal than usual!
Tbh, it's not really your highs, it's more the ridiculously hot nights you have. It just never ever seems to cool down there.

I meant hot relative to average.

I live in relatively mild year round temps about 15 miles inland in Southern California, 50 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. The sea surface temperature (SST) has a big impact on local temps, and this year the SST is several degrees F warmer than average.

Right now the SST is about 72F/22C along the local coast. That usually means our morning low air temps don't drop much below the SST during summer. This morning when I pedaled my bicycle to work at 6 am, it was about 70F/21C and humid with damp maritime overcast (fog). Less than an hour after sunrise, the sun burned off the overcast and during the day it heated up to about 90F/32C. It's been like this or hotter for the past few weeks, and no sign of much change for the next few weeks.

The one good thing about the heat is that since I don't own a clothes dryer, the laundry dries fast on the clothes line after coming out of the washing machine.

Boy, here it is! 41C (106F)!!!! Our annual record. I feel really tired, this afternoon I will take the longest "siesta" ever. Yes, we do have lots of swimingpools, this is the swimingpool country. These days there is almost nobody in the streets, we do not have any clouds at all, the sun burns your skin and you may suffer from dehydration, heat shock.

I'm jealous of your summer - it only got to around 70 degrees yesterday. Today is going to be in the mid 80s.

Meanwhile in NE Europe, it's been cooler than normal since spring. The max where I live has been about 23°C and I haven't even gone to the beach yet.

We've had a couple of days slightly below average, and last night after midnight it was only 20c.

These are really not strange conditions at all, and yet I felt "wow, it feels cool"

One or two more nice days (read: 18/30c and dry) and then we'll be back to 35c+ highs again. I think I'll try to head to the beach this week. Also, the cicadas are really loud this year, I have to keep the windows shut all day, not only for the heat. They're getting really annoying.

Within one week I'll be on vacation at 1500 m asl in the Alps, can't wait
