coldest forecast I can remember in a very long time. 8 days where it won't go above 20°F. Lows are less impressive. 5 days below 14°F (-10°C). Of course it might not pan out; weather underground often exaggerates.

We picked up about .5 in. of snow here last night. I guess that doesn't technically meet NWS's standards for a White Christmas, but I'm counting it as a White Christmas.

blasting wind this morning; 30 mph west wind, 40 mph gusts in Farmingdale, NY [Long Island near my parents house]. Map of wind gusts

national weather map; can see the cold front has just passed and a low off-shore that brought snow inland and rain to the coast. Neat altocumulus yesterday afternoon from being on the edge of the low

Christmas morning temperatures

Yeah, and you didn't have to go far from us to really see the difference... check it out.. 15 minute drive to my north. Amazing what a couple degree difference will do. Typical dividing line.

Upper part of the boxed area was a winter wonderland.. Bottom part was less than an inch and melting. Both taken about 10:15am this morning

Nice maps! Thanks! Winds picking up here too.. Just had a quick burst of snow out of nowhere.

The storm has merged. Now the coastal low is the primary low and strengthening. Currently a 990mb Low!

Blizzard warnings out for Maine

That's pretty drastic.
