That was just before i got into weather and keeping records. I remember the fall-winter of 76-77 being active and cold. I was just getting into telescopes back then at the age of 13. Astronomy and offshore fishing got me into weather since both depend on the weather so much. Then we had the super freezes in 81, 83,84,85 and 1989. After that is just kept warming up until we had a big dip in 2010, and after that it has warmed up so much. So really the last 27 years have been so warm minus 2010 when we had a freak 3 month run of highs in the 40's and 50's. We had Atlanta weather from Jan till March. We will never see that again.
In Serbia January 1977 was warmer than average, Ferbuary 1977 was much warmer than average and December 1977 was colder than average.
For example average temperature in Novi Sad in January 1977 was 2 C (35,6 F), in February 6,2 C (43,16 F), and in December -1,8 C (28,76 F).
February 1977 was the warmest or the second warmest February ever on average in majority of Serbian cities.
Generally the coldest winters in Serbia after WW2 were in sixties.
Winters in sixties were quite colder than in seventies, even winters in eighties were colder than in seventies.
I remember the spring of 1983 being very active as just about every weekend our overnite trips 80 miles offshore could not go out for weeks due to bad weather in March and Apirl. I was forced to spend 2 weeks in KY at Mammoth Cave in job core and that was the worst weather i ever lived thru. Highs in the 40's and lows in the 20's in the last week of March and first week of Apr and maybe saw the sun one time in the 2 weeks i was forced to stay there. I got out of that nitemare and returned home to work on the boat. The El Nino of 97-98 was. the best with over 30" of rain in 4 months. The last El Nino was a total dud and we got no rain out of it.
Stunning outside today! Blue skies with fresh snow around. Unfortunately feels hot in the sun but not bad.. Wonder how much melting we'll get. I say 1.5". Temps staying in 30s.

They're still under the influence of the west Atlantic ridge. The same ridge that was keeping Florida in the 80s while snow feel in Louisiana.
