On the way home from work I always pass a local high school. When I am driving by I notice large number of kids crossing the street to go to a strip shopping center. Even if the temperature is below freezing no one will wear a jacket. Kids now days do not wear coats. If you ask them why they insist it is not cold even though it is! What is up? Peer pressure or do the kids not feel the cold?

Well, when I was in high school, there were days I wouldnt wear a jacket and it was freezing out. I dont know if it was stupidity or the fact that cold bothered me less back then. Maybe both? Anyways, alot of kids wont wear coats as some kind of bizarre fashion statement. I noticed thats the case with alot of college-aged kids too. Ive also known several adults who will wear shorts and no coat when its even snowing out! It seems the cold just doesnt faze some people.

People's circulation also slows down with age; thus they generally feel the cold more.

It's all about a sense of pride. I'm 17 and I usually wear short sleeves above 60, long sleeves from 40-60, jacket from 20-40 and coat when it's under 20 (a.k.a. very rare here). I don't feel cold very much but I don't see the point in sacrificing comfort just to look cool or tough.

what's ironic about that is, those same kids are the ones that are always b@tching when it's cold.

I can't speak for others but I often do not wear a jacket even if it is cold outside if I am going to be actually outside for less than about a couple minutes. For example, a trip to the mall or wherever that is indoor consists of going from house to car to mall back to car, etc. You spend about 1 minute outside. I personally do not like wearing a jacket and I also don't feel like carrying it around once I'm inside so I just tough it out for the 1 minute walk. For me it has nothing to do with trying to act tough or impress anyone but because I just don't like jackets too much. If I'm going somewhere far from home I will keep one in the car with me just in case we get stranded or something and if I am going to be doing something where I will have to be outside for awhile I'll definitly wear one though.

Of couse this makes sense but the kids I see are out for a long time. I do not wear a coat to go from a car to a shopping mall, I just run for it because I do not have to worry about a coat inside.
