1052mb High Pressure right now over Canada there with lots of blues at 5000'! lol. (-30C and colder)

That Arctic High is making its way into the U.S and carrying the next reinforcing shot of cold.

I think the northern Plains departures have been pretty impressive this month. Not sure.

Nice little storm entering the PacNW right now. Not ignoring the Ridge either with above normal temps in the Southwest but it's off topic for this thread. (Someone start a Western U.S Ridge thread)

Looked it up on NOWDATA. Last time KNYC had a New Years Eve this cold was 1962... that day was 13/4 F.

Coldest NYE on record was 1917 which was 6/-7 F.

As for New Year's Day... this will be the coldest since 1918, which was also the coldest on record at 10/-4 F.

I'm sure Watertown residents were very disappointed yesterday :

Watertown missed being the coldest place in the nation by 1 degree | NewYorkUpstate.com

Info might be a little off. NWS lists Philadelphia NY as the coldest place, but that's only a Coop station, not 3-letter designated like Watertown or Mt. Washington: http://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/discuss...sion=1&fmt=reg

Well, I've read it and agree with him, look at that map, the only place under well below normal temperatures are central and eastern North America.. the problem here is that most of the U.S posters don't care about the world if their climates still be the way they like.

That previous graphic yesterday showing an eastern ridge days 11-15 seemed unlikely to me. Perhaps after mid-January we get a nice thaw.

That's just not true. The real problem is the record cold and snow. When we have been told by "experts" and a million others that winters are warming the fastest in the US, that global warming will result in milder winters, with less snow, and that the world is warmer than ever, when reality shows that the US is suffering terrible cold and then on top of all that, the record cold and snow is then claimed to be from record warming.

At some point reality is going to matter more.

IMNSHO of course

Apparently most people aren’t tracking the dramatic warming at high latitudes like Alaska that continues to warm at a rapid pace with permafrost melting, (releasing methane,) and villages having to be relocated.
