Current map with Upper Heights. Typically Warm, Dry & Sunny under a ridge. Except for convective stuff of course. Not sure if those clouds over Georgia/SC are convective. Temps in the 70s there.

Huge Upper Low over Colorado.

I'm back.

After what looks to be a mild weekend there's the possibility of a major spring storm in Alberta on Monday.

Quote:
FOCN45 CWWG 131200
SIGNIFICANT WEATHER DISCUSSION ISSUED BY THE PRAIRIE AND ARCTIC STORM
PREDICTION CENTRE OF ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT 7:00 AM CDT FRIDAY APRIL
13 2018.

ALERTS IN EFFECT...BLIZZARD WARNING FOR RESOLUTE BAY.

SYNOPTIC OVERVIEW...

UPPER TROUGH FROM NRN BC TO THE FOUR CORNERS STATES.
UPPER RIDGE OVER AB AND A NW FLOW OVER THE EASTERN PRAIRIES. UPPER
LOW OVER HUDSON BAY SUPPORTING A WEAKENING 1005 MB LOW SOUTH
OF SOUTH HAMPTON ISLAND. SURFACE TROF HUGGING THE AB
FOOTHILLS. THERE IS A 995 MB LOW NEAR BANKS ISLAND TRACKING
EAST INTO THE HIGH ARCTIC. SFC RIDGE DOMINATING FROM NRN
BAFFIN THROUGH CENTRAL ARCTIC INTO SRN SK AND MB.

DISCUSSION...

PRAIRIES...THE HEAVY SNOW IN SW ALBERTA HAS SINCE ENDED AS THE
SURFACE TROF ALONG THE ALBERTA FOOTHILLS HAS MOVED OFF STRETCHING
FROM EDMONTON TO CALGARY BRINGING LIGHT SNOW ALONG IT. A COUPLE OF
CM HAS BEEN REPORTED IN A FEW LOCALITIES OVERNIGHT ALONG THIS
TROUGH. THIS FEATURE IS ALSO SUPPORTED BY A VORT MAX ALOFT THAT WILL
CONTINUE TO MOVE NORTHEASTWARDS TOWARDS COLD LAKE THROUGH THE DAY.
POCKETS OF FOG ALONG THE FOOTHILLS AND PARTS OF SOUTHERN ALBERTA ARE
STARTING TO DEVELOP THIS MORNING IN THE WAKE OF THE SNOW WITH THE
EASTERLY UPSLOPE FLOW.

TEMPERATURES SHOULD BEGIN TO MODERATE THROUGH THE DAY FOR MOST OF
ALBERTA WITH SPRING POKING ITS HEAD IN TO SAY HELLO THIS WEEKEND.
TEMPERATURES THIS WEEKEND FOR MOST OF ALBERTA SHOULD BE IN THE HIGH
SINGLE DIGITS AND LOW TEENS TOWARDS SOUTHERN ALBERTA. HOWEVER, BE
HAPPY SPRING POPS IN ON THE WEEKEND BECAUSE WINTER RETURNS MONDAY.
20-30 CENTIMETRES OF SNOW IS POSSIBLE BEGINNING MONDAY MORNING
LASTING INTO TUESDAY.
MOST OF ALBERTA SHOULD BE IMPACTED BY THIS
STORM WITH THE HEAVIEST SNOW APPEARING TO STRETCH FROM THE FOOTHILLS
SPREADING THROUGH CALGARY AND EDMONTON TOWARDS FORT MCMURRAY.

WITH SFC RIDGE IN PLACE, NOT TOO MUCH SIG WX OVER ERN PRAIRIES. MAY
SEE SOME PATCHY FOG AND FZDZ THIS MORNING IN SK.

WESTERN ARCTIC...THE BEAUFORT LOW IS NOW NORTH OF BANKS ISLAND
HEADED TOWARDS RESOLUTE BAY. THIS LOW IS BRINGING UP TO 5 CM OF
SNOW ALONG ITS PATH. AS THIS LOW MOVES CLOSER TO RESOLUTE BAY THE
SOUTHERLY GRADIENT STRENGTHENS TODAY WITH WINDS GETTING AS STRONG AS
60 GUSTING TO 80 KM/H CREATING BLIZZARD CONDITIONS THIS
AFTERNOON THAT WILL LAST UNTIL THIS EVENING.

EASTERN ARCTIC...NIL SIG WX.

END/SHAER/ALBERS

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE

National Weather Service Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN
359 AM CDT Fri Apr 13 2018

...BLIZZARD CONDITIONS EXPECTED ACROSS WEST CENTRAL INTO SOUTH
CENTRAL MINNESOTA TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING...
...SEVERE WINTER TRAVEL CONDITIONS ALSO LIKELY ACROSS THE REST OF
THE SOUTHERN HALF OF MINNESOTA AND WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN
BEGINNING LATE TODAY...

.A significant winter storm will develop this afternoon and
continue through Saturday night. All precipitation types, strong
winds, and blizzard conditions will occur in this winter storm. A
Blizzard Warning is in effect tonight through Saturday evening
for west central and south central Minnesota. A Winter Storm
Warning is in effect for most of east central and a portion of
south central Minnesota and all of west central Wisconsin. St
Cloud, the Twin Cities, Mankato and Albert Lea are included in the
warning. As well as Rice Lake, Ladysmith and Eau Claire Wisconsin.
A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for areas north of the
warning areas.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue this morning,
and persist for much of the day as temperatures remain in the mid
30s in central Minnesota to the lower 40s along the
Minnesota/Iowa border. Colder air will begin to move into central
Minnesota this afternoon and evening, changing the precipitation
to snow. In addition to the heavy snow, strong gusty winds of 40
to 50 mph will bring blizzard conditions to west central
Minnesota. The best chance for whiteouts will be late Friday night
across west central Minnesota. The rain will turn to a wintry mix
of freezing rain, sleet, and snow across south central and east
central Minnesota, and west central Wisconsin Friday evening,
before changing to all snow by Saturday morning.

Total snow accumulations of 8 to 15 inches are expected from west
central and southwest Minnesota to east central Minnesota and
northern Wisconsin, with totals nearing 18 inches possible across
southwest Minnesota. Totals will taper off to 4 to 8 inches
across south central Minnesota. There may be a sharp gradient in
the watch area north of Alexandria and Little Falls. In addition,
total ice accumulations of one to two tenths of an inch are
possible across the southern third of Minnesota into west central
Wisconsin.

359 AM CDT Fri Apr 13 2018

...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO
1 AM CDT SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. Winds gusting as high as
45 mph will cause whiteout conditions in blowing snow.
Significant drifting of the snow is likely. Total snow
accumulations of 11 to 15 inches, with localized amounts up to
17 inches, are expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central, southwest and west central
Minnesota.

* WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 1 AM CDT Sunday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel will be very dangerous to
impossible. Tree branches could fall.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded, stay with your vehicle. The latest road conditions for
Minnesota can be found at 511mn.org and for Wisconsin at
511wi.gov, or by calling 5 1 1 in either state.

Oh crap. Here we go again.

Oh crap. Here we go again.
Its actually impressive to see this blizzard happen with over a foot in some areas. Incredible pattern and probably why we wont see this pattern here until May again. Mid and Upper Levels still showing its cold and the Northerrn Jet Stream still strong..

All that cold and energy is going to push east.

Didnt we have early Fall snowstorms happen too?
