January is indeed the coldest month historically in San Antonio. The average annual coldest temperatures based on my obvservation would probably be a high in the 30s and lows in the mid 20s. That kind of cold is normally reserved for one day only out of the entire year... in fact I don't even think it got that cold this year.

I agree. January is definitely the coldest month of the year for us, too. I can't really pinpoint any specific date though. Our entire month is usually pretty cold. One year I believe we had three weeks in Jan. where the temp didn't get above -10 for the high. I've always wished I could find those stats and I believe it was about 5 years ago.

SO, I'm just going to say "January" and the third week is usually very cold.

July is the coldest month of the year here. Some years (especially recently), June ends up being colder and more rotten.

It's random. Usually late January is the worst, but we can also have our coldest weather all winter long in either February or sometimes December.

I don't really pay too much attention, as our regular winter weather is cold enough and long enough that I'd rather try to forget.

I just remembered some places in the U.S. are typically mild or mild(er) and then get harsh zaps of cold air lasting a day or two. Toronto being on the north side of the Great Lakes, our severe cold snaps last anywhere from 4-20 days, so remembering any one particular day can be difficult.

But we have the reverse when it comes to hot weather:

93+ F typically won't last more than 2-3 days in a row, and then we usually get a sudden drop to highs in the high 70's F to mid 80's F and temperatures remain between 72-85 F for at least 2-3 weeks before the next blast of heat.

Usually the first full moon in January is the coldest here. Don't know why, but it is usually clear and cold those couple of nights.

I've heard that January 20th is the most depressing day of the year because it is usually very cold, it's in the depth of winter, New Year's resolutions die, and Christmas debts need to be paid.
