Costa del Sussex lol, listen its far from warm here but really the ridiculous over the top scaremongering has to stop or else how are we supposed to know when there really IS cold weather approaching! Believe me our 'friends' from the continent think we are pathetic with our complaining and really who can blame them!!? Beast from the east my a**e ultimately it meant 3 days of weather that would be considered as mild in the East of the continent, I feel ashamed!
The UK has an oceanic climate with relatively mild winters, so yes what we consider very cold would be standard winter weather in Eastern Europe. I have no idea why this surprises you so much. Likewise in the summer, what Poles consider a heatwave would be a cold summer in Spain.
It’s all relative to what you are used to. Not much else to it. The cold spell in early March was significant by British standards and that’s all that matters to us.

Got an inch of snow or so. Not really sticking anywhere outside of grass and some surfaces. Pretty cold, but we should have 3 days without precipitation before rain and snow come back.
No mild weather in sight (i.e., no high above 7c).
