Those plants are probably bay laurel which are evergreens. You should also check out Kew and Richmond if you like leafy suburban streets.

Kew is a must for anyone interested in plants and trees.

This cold snap has been particularly notable in the south west of the UK, an area usually the mildest. The Isles of Scilly dropped below freezing last night & had heavy snow showers today, the temperature at 3pm there was -1.2C. Heavy snow also at the Lizard the most southerly point in Cornwall & across south Devon. The Channel Islands have also seen as much as 25cm of snowfall... There is also the potential for this area to have blizzards tomorrow night & Friday, with some models forecasting as much as 45cm of snowfall in places.

meanwhile you haven't touched anywhere near freezing, correct? Cold fronts have a hard time getting to Malta I would imagine.

Nope, my low last night was 10.1C & Luqa airport dropped to 7C. It has never gone down to freezing, record low even at the airport is 1.4C & there are weather records here going back to the 1800's...

Yeah you would be like Key West or the FL keys here, the only part of FL not to touch freezing. Record low there is 5C.

Those areas in general are full of tree-lined streets, Richmond Park is a must see as well (especially the Isabella Plantation depending on what month you visit).

The Chelsea Physic Garden is not far from where you will be staying; it's home to the largest olive tree in London, and the world's most northerly fruiting grapefruit tree.
