Right now in Austin the air is blowing in from the Sahara Desert.

Time: 10:30 AM, temp 93F, dewpoint 66, heat index 99. High today will be 102. Wind SW at 7 MPH.

Not a cloud in the sky but notice the haze. This is very fine particulates from the Sahara.

The good news is this pattern will prevent hurricane formation in the Gulf, so there's good news there.

This is happening because of the east winds coming off the bottom of the Bermuda High, which is firmly established right now.

The slightly lower humidity (dewpoint 66 instead of 75 which it was last week means that even though it's hotter, it feels more comfortable). Last week it was lower 90's but with 75F dewpoint.

Here and there.
North-easternmost Estonia on 16 July. Wild, unofficial beach, very late afternoon or evening, temperature about 30c, sea water 23c:

A few kilometers from the first place, official beach and evening at 7pm:

Now about 380 km from from it, Jurmala in Latvia, afternoon of 22nd. Weather conditions were about same.

Default Irrigation

Can you tell which part of the grass is irrigated and which is not?

Dry heat = you can irrigate the grass and make it green
Dry cold = you can't do squat, it's brown

Just got back from trip to Washington D.C.

Here are some pics I took.

Rained pretty much all day Saturday when I arrived. The other days weren't as wet, but there was a heavy downpour Sunday afternoon I walked thru and got soaked on way to a museum.

Alexandria, VA before landing at airport.

Saw areas of brown grass. This is at Arlington Cemetery. Guess it didn't recover yet from hot, dry conditions the first half of July.

Storm delayed flight home at airport in Arlington yesterday evening.

Interesting cloud formations above storms in Virginia

Highway in Houston area.

Sky over eastern Houston area on flight back to Alexandria, LA. I think the glow is from a refinery.

A form of Lenticular clouds over Trondheim today. We had a breeze from SE so the high of 30.9C (airport 30C) did not feels so bad. Tomorrow forecasted to be slightly warmer before it cools down a little.
