I really like both of these cities. After thinking about it, looking at their climate numbers, and thinking back to my time in both, I would have to give Boise a slight edge due to less humid summers.

Boise - drier and more managable summers. Less cold rain in winter.

Nashville is not bad but Boise for being drier and thus more comfortable year-round.

Nashville for being wetter, but I prefer Boise's temperatures.

Nashville. The South's climate beats the Mountain West by a long shot. Was in Idaho Falls one summer and the bone dry air meant nosebleeds and cracked skin. Didn't have any problem with that the following summer in muggy coastal Louisiana!

I don't like humidity, so Boise would be better for me. I actually took a close look at Boise as my retirement home, but concluded that it was too hot during the summer, even with the low humidity. Instead, I moved to North Idaho when I retired last year.

Nashville is the winner here but it is close. The deal breaker for Boise is the possibility of freezes in June and August.
