today is the 14th day in a row of below normal temps in State College, PA. We will definitely hit 16 and should hit 17. Sunday should squeak just above thanks to mild lows.
This has been an incredible stretch of cold in Chicago this autumn. Since October 11th when we suddenly went from summer to winter it has been the coldest such stretch on record minus 1976. So does this mean we are going to have a winter like 76-77'?

Don't expect any big warmups in your area anytime soon

Yup. Started on the 12th here BUT... 1st week of October was above normal and warm here so we did have a break. Interesting how relentless it's been there.
And once again.. A cold blast that is almost historic. Anyone else finding these are becoming more common in recent years?
Started in 2014 with 1 I believe.
Then a historic 1 in Feb 2015.
I forget 2016 & 2017 but it happened.
Didn't we have a stretch in January 2018?
Now November 2018?
Maybe they will finally be more common each month instead each year.

WOW! Look at these temps! You haven't past 43° since beginning of the month! Like a switch was flipped after the 11th of October
Now the question becomes when will people stop buying the end of the world scenario for the east coast and realize the facts... we ain’t warming in the winter at all... 0

The western US and western Canada are warming dramatically,
Current 850mb temps. -20C line has crossed the U.S border now in NY. -10C line should get as far south as Baltimore. -20C down to Hartford and over Eastern MA
Hope hikers are prepared. What an airmass to look at and experience in November. I never have.

Don't forget. plenty of sites to see the current 850mb temps.
