Awesome way to see how these things are swinging across! Watch the warmth and ridge across U.S this week and watch the cold dips across Canada... Watch the 1...2...3. dips further south each time as they rotate around up there.

Looks like the West may see a consistent ridge which makes sense why the dips will start for East. Must be some blocking in Atlantic too?

Fast loop because of amount of frames.

This week to October 6th
Yep, looks like a messy couple of days. Snow, rain, freezing rain... Red Deer is almost exactly halfway between Edmonton and Calgary.

Quote:
ALBERTA...A SERIES OF IMPULSES OVER THE NEXT 3 DAYS WILL BRING RAIN AND SNOW TO CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN ALBERTA. THE FIRST OF THESE IMPULSES IS BEGINNING TO PUSH INTO CENTRAL ALBERTA THIS MORNING. A MIX OF SNOW AND RAIN IS FORECAST FOR THE MOUNTAINS TODAY WITH SNOW EXPECTED AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS, ESPECIALLY ALONG THE SUMMITS OF THE ICE FIELDS PARKWAY. RAIN IS EXPECTED TO FALL AT THE VALLEY BOTTOMS. AS THIS IMPULSE MOVES EASTWARD THROUGH THE DAY, RAIN WILL PUSH TOWARDS THE EDMONTON REGION. RAIN WILL QUICKLY TURN TO SNOW THIS EVENING WITH 2-4 CM EXPECTED TO FALL FROM EDSON TO LLOYDMINSTER BY FRIDAY MORNING. THE QUESTION REMAINS AS TO WHERE THE RAIN/SNOW LINE WILL LIE DURING THIS EVENT. CURRENTLY IT APPEARS THAT RED DEER IS THE WINNER WITH MULTIPLE MODELS INDICATING THAT THE RAIN/SNOW LINE WILL BE SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE REGION. ONE THING FOR CERTAIN IS THAT AS A LEE LOW DEVELOPS SOUTH OF CALGARY FRIDAY THE COLD AIR WILL PUSH SOUTHWARD TURNING THE RAIN TO SNOW FOR RED DEER, IF BY THIS POINT THE RAIN HAS NOT ALREADY TRANSITIONED TO SNOW.

FRIDAY EVENING THE NEXT IN THE SERIES OF IMPULSES PUSHES INTO ALBERTA BRINGING SNOW AND RAIN TO MUCH OF SOUTHERN ALBERTA. EARLY INDICATIONS HAVE A SIGNIFICANT BAND OF FREEZING RAIN DEVELOPING FROM NEAR CALGARY AND EXTENDING EASTWARDS TOWARDS MEDICINE HAT. A CLOSE EYE WILL BE KEPT ON THIS AS THE EVENT DRAWS NEAR.

Average high so far in September has been 12.6°C; that's almost 5°C below normal. Looking forward to the forecast pattern change!

Still warm and humid here, although less so than the last few days. Only 27c today, but that's still a bit warm for the season.

Now we're entering that strange period of the year when the highs start to drop but the lows remain high, as a result we still have that water-saturated air every evening which feels very clammy and uncomfortable, except soon I'll start sweating in the chilly air. blah.

We should have a low temperature drop sometime around wednesday but I keep my fingers crossed it actually happens.

Just saw the forecast for Lyon and love how it goes from 18/30 to 5/18 in a couple of days due to wind direction shift from South to North. I miss those sudden changes and that dry air. Hope the cool mornings here will arrive soon.

GFS 5000' temp anomaly Next Sunday morning (I know, 10 days away!)

Canadian doesn't agree on the timing. Euro agrees but not as deep cold.

Normal 850mb (5000') temp is 9C (48°F) here for September 30th.
So -9 below normal = temps aloft in the 30s. lol. The record is -1C believe it or not.

Imagine -9 below normal in December? #FantasyThinking
