Last time New York Kennedy International reached 100°F was on 19 July 2013. Then in another year before that 24 July 2011. Data is not available for central park. Therefore 100°F is overdue and likely next year.

3 more months left for NYC to hit 100 and add to the total for this decade.. 1950s was crazy.
Past 19 yrs we still have less than the total from the 1990s.

Number of times NYC hit 100°+

1870s: 0
1880s: 1
1890s: 1
1900s: 2
1910s: 3
1920s: 2
1930s: 8
1940s: 8
1950s: 12
1960s: 4
1970s: 3
1980s: 2
1990s: 8
2000s: 1
2010s: 5

July 17 & 18, 1953 they hit 100-101° then 7 days later they dropped to 57° and struggled past 70s.

This thread explains perfectly why it has been showing a cooling trend...

"The NYC cooling pattern looks to be a result of increased vegetation growth over the years". lol.

1. So are you saying that the reason other areas have warmed and increased numbers is because we don't have enough trees around nowadays?

2. So there was less trees/shrubs in the past in NYC?

3. Does that explain this too?

Because LaGuardia's Lows are trending warmer and that's near a runway, no increased vegetation there.

Also, Albany's number of days 90F+ is less now than in the 1940s & 50s. No vegetation there either.

In short, the weather pattern doesn't support as many 100's in NYC as there used to be.

This thread is about Central Park specifically, I have no idea about other stations.

Do you think a weather station being completely shaded out during the summer is going to have no effects on the temperatures at all? I know I can feel a difference if I walk from the open sun into a wooded area.
