Sweden divided for temperatures right in the middle this afternoon. Strong winds over the North Sea as well, will be interesting to see how much maritime air that will come in. A non-ice day is forecast tomorrow, with quite a bit of potential rain or wet snow, so it depends on whether any of the cold northern air can sustain itself to make it fall as snow (which I really hope it will):

eastward across the area will bring brief periods of moderate to
heavy snow and gusty winds."

15 May-15 Aug usually are alright! October is not fun at all.

Anyway, the Hudson Bay polar airmass looks to have made serious inroads over the prairies right now. Serious cold wave:

That “white” -40C area on the map is not quite the prairies...more like NW northern Ontario
and a bit of eastern Manitoba. Western prairies avtually have been mild ...yesterday well on the plus side
around 5C Edmonton...9C Calgary.

Really aparently well below normal temps are heading our way later this week, vortex loves Ontario and Quebec, also frigid Hudson Bay doesn’t help.

While lows of -30 C are not too uncommon in the lower United States during winter, HIGH temperatures of -30 C are very rare.

But next Tuesday and Wednesday, there seems to be a swath of them forecast in Northwest MN and Eastern ND, in places like Pembina, Grand Forks, and Bemidji. Now that is epic AF.

I also see some sub -40 lows forecast very close to the US border, for example in Brandon MB (-43 F Tuesday night) which is south of 50N. Though Env Canada only has -32F.

True, those are rather forested areas Since I'm a bit lazy I call them part of the prairie climate zone though, since they share Manitoba's climate patterns. Québec and East Ontario is a bit separate, since those are even colder on said latitudes. Matagami for example has -13/-27 January normals at 49°N! Anyway, western and eastern prairies are rather different of course. The Saskatchewan dividing line is rather stark.

Either way, I wouldn't want to go out on sea east of Northern England right now! This is a wind gust speed animation. Also, below 20 km/h right east of it!

So are you going to make a trip out there? NYC isn't going to be as cold, you're missing out
