Turned out to be a great day in NYC. Change over to rain didn't happen till 7pm which means there should be a decent amount of "sleetpack" remaining until Friday, by which time it'll have had several chances to refreeze despite this rain.

We've had heavy snow and blowing snow this morning changing over to freezing rain shortly after noon here in Toronto.

Looking further ahead, models have been deliberating between a clipper look and a period dominated by Miller type storms, which may indirectly impact the Great Lakes. Either way, it appears that there will be no shortage of trackable storms on the horizon for the Great Lakes region

Nice Upper Low Over Mid West. I heard Toronto got hammered with snow.

My home is at about 850 ft. and we were well above freezing all day, all the ice melted. Elevations above 1,000 feet were still covered with ice at 8:00pm. I was at about 1800 ft. in Frostburg at 8:00pm, and it was still raining and below freezing. I measured a 1/2 inch of ice on a small twig. We are going to lose a lot of trees with high winds on the way.

A giant storm is about to hit California.
Mudslides, flooding, crazy wind, etc.
I thought we were done with giant storms this season.

Powerful atmospheric river storm slamming California tonight is forecast to make landfall as an AR-Cat 4 (Extreme) out of 5 on newly-developed scale https://t.co/CsUrLsIcG8 https://t.co/jyn91aEK9P

Coming up......... Pattern continues to be active in the Northeast.

Saturday 18th... Ummm.. Again? Snow south of NYC and even Philly this time. Northern Virginia sees some snow.

Snowfall Total this season so far:

DC: 20.2"
Atlantic City 14.8"
Wilmington: 13.9"
Richmond: 13.0"

Boston: 4.7"
NYC: 8.7"
Bridgeport: 8.8"
Providence: 11.2"

Sunday 19th a storm takes a horrible turn and heads west of the Appalachians. However, cold enough air around to give NYC northward some snow. While a new coastal storm forms and that main low over NY transfers into it.

Wednesday the 20th. Could it be?? Could it really be?? A pure coastal storm finally with a legit snowstorm from DC to Boston and no mixing issues?

Still 1 week away so who knows. All winter all these events turned warmer as we got closer to the event but if this stays a pure coastal storm, this could be the first all snow event since November..

Cooler today and not too insane until next week when upper 80's could be back inland.
