Can't forget them...

Can't forget the ice potential as well. This storm will have it all.

I’m in the “Likely Ice” area. Any chance that I get snow rather than ice?

Aside from Lightning one weather event I hate is Ice! Hope its not that bad.

The core of the cold will be over New England. If that HP was south more I would say Yes for snow for you to start. But when your banking on CAD for cold and when its above freezing at 5k, no chance. Maybe some sleet Thursday.

However with that Upper Low coming over you, you will change to snow after midnight. Might be snowing Friday morning and you'll hear the winds howl.

Instead of an animation.....lets go over some stills from the latest NAM model which is colder and snowier for here.

Other models might differ in timing and Precip type!

8am Thursday. Look at that 1038 High! Clockwise spin so all thatg cold air damming down the Appalachians keeping the low levels cold enough for Ice and Sleet but mid levels are warm.

Snow breaking out in Maryland.

10am Thursday. Sleet and Ice storm over Virginia. Raining in Richmond. Flurries starting in Philly. Still snowing in Western Maryland. Rain for Atlantic City

1pm Thursday. Philly changing over. Snowline approaching NYC. 1034 High over New England providing Fresh cold. Still icing over Pittsburgh.

4pm Thursday. Snowing in Southern NY and SouthWest CT. Probably mixing in NYC at this time now. (not a long duration snow event there!)

7pm Thursday. Snowing CT Statewide and very heavy under the darker blues. Thumping away which is when accumulations happen fast.. So basically a few hours of snow already has fallen here.. Remember, the closer you are to the rain/snow line the heavier the snow will be. (cement like snow though).

Long Island may see back and forth precip types.
Pittsburgh changed to snow as the new cold air rushes in behind the storm which is off Delaware coast here.

At 10pm CT has changed over. Raining on long island. Sleeting in Binghamton. Still "lightly" snowing in Pittsburgh.

1am Friday: Still lightly snowing in Western PA. Starting to snow in Northern New England. Binghamton changed back to snow. Snowing in West Virginia and scattered over Kentucky

That's all based on latest NAM model which all these details subject to change!

Phew... That took some time.

Interesting. Weather Channel has a very different take. At last look, they had Cumberland, MD in the 8-12in of snow during the day, Frostburg to our west a bit less, 5-8 during the day, 1-3 at night. Ice and sleet to mix in.

Why the drastic difference?

Maybe TWC includes sleet?? Maybe its through Thursday night where as NWS is only to 7pm?

Forecasts usually all are different anyway
