Summer started on a very cool note here. I had a min of 7.7 this morning and now is only 18 at noon, even with sunny skies. This cold front has been very strong for December standards.

Some fresh snow for the central Andes: Aconcagua's base camps are fully white right now:

It even snowed at lower elevations in Las Leas ski resort (2300m).

Meanwhile, another too-cool-for-December day here: 12.1C/21.8C.

It's been an atypical cool start for December here too. Low of 8.9C on monday, 6.9C on tuesday and 9.2C yesterday. Most Decembers don't have any sub-10C temperatures.

Big t-storm here yesterday:

100mm recorded in one day. There were some massive hail in Cordoba province, too:

Temps wise, this december so far has been below normal. I don't remember another first half of December to be so moderate as this one.

Still affected by seasonal lag, New Zealand had a quite cool day today, this was the satellite heat map at 1 pm NZ time:

Anyway, the cool waters of the hemisphere never ceases to amaze me. Overnight, at 48S south west of the African continent, there was a measurement of 0C air temp offshore after the summer solstice

Australia and New Zealand today at 11 am Perth time, 2 pm Sydney time and 4 pm Auckland time. Still only 30C at 23S far inland in the desert, contrasted by the 43C temps in the hot north-west. Quite a bit below the average temps in Sydney and Brisbane. New Zealand still in seasonal lag and the Southern Ocean is bitterly cold below 50S as usual.
