Well the rose bushes have been blooming all winter.

Typical Austin mid-winter median scene. If you click to enlarge it, it goes the right way.

Definitely feels subtropical today, low of 69 high of 78 under cloudy skies and 66 dewpoint. It's juicy out there!

Took a trip up to some old ruins. Neat to see how much difference a bit of altitude can make.

Some pics of the snow.

Today downtown looks like this. Temperature 35F (2C) with blue skies.

like the setting of the first photo. Looks like a nice walk up the hill into the clouds.

=====================

bike ride to Northport (village on the harbor, Long Island). Gets a little hilly on the north shore. Fancy homes in the woods

pier in ice

firm enough for the swan to stand on

checking out the rest of the harbor

down the pier

nice ice shapes

Spoiler

felt much colder by the harbor and especially on the pier, was in the mid 50s a block away from the water but the harbor had chilly breeze

gross air in NYC, I noticed smog to the north

Spoiler

interesting ice patterns

clearly a bit of an inversion to the north with the haze trapping pollution

Wow I guess the warm weather didn't do much to melt the ice.

Cold front sweeping through Dallas now.

Dallas temp: 42
Austin temp: 63
Houston temp: 71

Latitude matters!

It was warm, around 72F this morning and dropped down to 63 as the cold front came through. Houston is far enough south that they won't see any cold weather until tonight.

They were originally predicting a wet mix in Austin but now we won't get below 34. Dallas will get to 26 tonight but under clear skies so no winter precip for them either. We actually would have a better chance of winter precip than them because the front will still be passing through at the coldest period whereas it's long past up there by then.
