No way it gets 1800+ sun hours. Not a whole heck of a lot to do there. My dad used to go moose hunting in the vicinity. Fall season, pretty much constant rain. Flooded tent once with about 10 inches in 24 hours.
Home of Mt Saint Elias. If you haven't seen an image, check it out. 18,000 ft fairly close to tidewater. Storms back up against it, hence the heavy precipitation.
Also, look at map and see how this area looks like a catchers mitt for the regular storms coming across gulf of Alaska.
This climate's biggest problems are too much precipitation and non-existent summers. That being said, it's semi-livable, but not a good climate.

Indeed, on the open ocean means never warm even in summer. However, inland towns in SE Alaska region have best summer weather in the US, in my humble opinion.
Usually 60s and overcast, maybe 70s when sun is out. Never hot...
