felt -5f in 1994, and it was cold. the lowest since then was 2f in 2014. 2014 will live for a while as one of the coldest in a long time. hope with warming arctic it doesn't return for decades.

I looked up the data for KPHL. It seems like Jan 2014 only reached 4 F. Then Feb 2015 was the one which reached 2 F. The last subzero was indeed -5 F in 1994. Maybe you are using a different station though.
Yep. It can get down around -25F here in the Winter, I've changed the oil in my truck at that temp, and have been out cutting wood in a raging blizzard at that temp (with icicles hanging off my beard/mustache). I can say that, after two or three weeks at -25F, -04F (with bright sun and no wind) feels positively balmy.

The same guy has a vid where he CAMPS outside one night when it hits -75 C.
One can only dream of getting to winter over down there.
Well, except of course that's a stunt (and one I wouldn't recommend to anyone with cardiovascular issues) and if they stayed out there for a whole lot longer they wouldn't have shrinkage they'd have icicles.
People in Northern Europe have long had a tradition of swimming in icy water in mid-winter. It's definitely possible to tolerate extreme cold for short time periods even without clothing especially when engaging in arduous physical activity that keeps the blood pumping.
That doesn't mean people should take the cold lightly. Eventually in the extreme cold, you're gonna have to sit down and rest - without shelter and cover you will not survive a night.
It's funny that you mention that, because I do get asked that a bunch and there was actually a 5-year period where I lived in Arizona, Antarctica (3 times including 2 full winters), Pennsylvania, Hawai'i (Big Island), Midway Atoll and North Carolina. All having very different climates and for whatever reason my body was able to adjust accordingly every single time with no issues. So to answer your question neither!
