Okay I was sharing pictures earlier with this person from Finland and he was like Grand Forks and International Falls and other areas just lay their snow anywhere? And I was like I guess but it disappears sometimes. He then said that it must be the melt, but I said there hasn't been significant melt since January 7th here.

So I was wondering, does your city take care of snow in a good manner?

Edmonton is terrible at snow clearing. Basically they just push it to the side on main roads. On residential streets there's usually no clearing at all, they just let the traffic pack it down so the roads end up looking like this.

We wait for it melt. Until then people just get stuck and spin their tires.

Back in Baltimore where I grew up, parking was prohibited on snow emergency routes. The plows came through and pushed the snow off to sidewalks.

On narrow residential streets, one of two things happened:

1) Plowing was ignored, or

2) The plow made one pass, pushing a mountain of snow against parked cars.

Great, eh?

My city imports snow piles from the mountainous areas nearby, and dumps them in large shopping center parking lots under large shades, so kids can have fun sledding, tobogganing etc. until they finally melt. In Jan-Feb, that can take a day or two.

At my girlfriend's place in West Hartford, CT, in the shopping district they push all the snow onto the center line the first night and remove it with bucket loaders and dump trucks. Two days after a storm, there are no snowbanks.
