The only way we're getting into the 40's at night on the East coast is if the highs are 50's-60's.
Summer minimums in the 40s here, will still typically see maximums in the 70s.

50s-60s maximums in summer, are more likely to have minimums that are also in the 50s-60s.

I camped once in eastern Oregon with that sort of weather and didn't like it. It was too cold at night, and with the sun it was too hot during the day.

The sixth Tuesday in November. I would be perfectly happy if the temperature never fell below 60.

But not on typical nights til around September 25th. We don't average a low in the 40s til September 22nd but we certainly can expect it sooner. Have yet to see it happen in summer, though. (Latest 40s I've seen are in May)
I'd like to see my first 40s in August. Don't need it in July. 50s is fine. 40s would be preferred in August but unfortunately I typically have to wait until mid September here for the 1st.

The entire year has avg lows below 40 in my ideal climate. More specifically, the warmest avg low would be about 35F in mid July, so some of the warmer summer nights could be in the 40s or even 50s (but that's the exception not the rule).

Slight update.

When would I like... (average)

First low in the 40s: September 10

Average lows in the 40s: October 10 - November 1 (my dream climate is quite continental, hence the short window)

What I actually get... (average)

First low in the 40s: September 22

Average lows in the 40s: October 15 - November 8[/quote]

Can't happen soon enough for me! I hate the heat. Up here in northern Maine we can get temps in the 40s any month in the year, but we don't always. I do like that it cools down rapidly at nightfall in the summer. Right now we are having nights in the 40s, but that won't last. I love it when daytime temps are in the 40s, but I'll have to wait till October for that.
