Another beautiful December day here in Indiana today. Sunshine and highs in the mid to upper 50s, a good 15F or so above normal. Rain Sunday, maybe even some thunderstorms overnight Sunday night which is unusual by this time of year. We originally had the chance for accumulating snow Tuesday night but most sites have downgraded that to less than inch if that at this point. But as the NWS discussion points out, we may not have a firm grasp on it until the system gets on shore of the west coast Sunday.

George, if you like cold I would just give up hope. The only states likely to see anything resembling winter in the next month are Washington, Idaho, and Montana. And of course Alaska. Lump in BC and the Canadian prairies to fill the gap. Everywhere else will torch.

Snow likely here tonight and again Monday. Lots of uncertainty about how much (if any) will accumulate.

I like the cold during the winter months. Especially around the holidays. I hope that's not the case now until February and then all of the sudden mid February it gets cold and last through March and part of April because that has happened a bunch of times in recent years

Not completely giving up hope just yet for a wintry holiday season. Maybe some big changes beyond the 14 day period. MJO might be moving into favorable phases for cold and snow in the eastern 2/3rds

Edit: the GFS has the Polar Vortex almost splitting and not in some fantasy time frame but at 96 hours which if true can lead to much cold weather a couple weeks down the road

Blizzard warning in Hawaii! I believe I read it's the first time in 3.5 years that office has issued a blizzard warning. A foot of snow with winds up to 100 mph are possible on the summits of the big island.

Wednesday December 8, 2021 Storm Update::

Quick look at the Euro12z for next Wednesdays storm. Looks like a Snow to Rain with this update.

Added Freezing levels to the timeframes here. Note before the storm moves in, it's below freezing above 1500' everywhere. So would be snow to start....Then starts warming up as storm moves closer

By Thursday morning you have to go to 6000' to find freezing temps over most of CT
