south lake tahoe is a pretty awesome place to spend winter vacation, did you stay in a cabin??
Yeah lol it was still pretty cold, I actually went over there to work at Heavenly Ski Resort but the job wasn't what they'd said it would be so it turned into a 3 week vacation, was pretty awesome. Just stayed at Harrahs Casino Hotel.

I'm afraid I do know what cold is.

Lol well if you do know what cold is you wouldn't call Invercargill extremely cold. Sure it's cooler than alot of places around of this end of the world but its not in the extremely cold catergory. Try going over to the States for a few weeks, then you'll know what real cold is!!

Those averages you were talking about are way out of date. Goto NIWA - National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research, New Zealand and go from there. We don't get alot of snow maybe 10-20cm per year.
Unlike the BOM, they want to charge money for their stats

BTW, do you have temperature data for the northernmost point on the North Island?

The most northern point is Cape Reinga but NIWA do not hold records for Cape Reinga. I think that the climate would vary a tad temperature wise giving that it is at an altitude of 191m exposed to the sea. I beleive that data is based through from 1960-2007.
