September is quite a lot colder than June according to wikipedia, surprisingly so. June averages 16.4C with Sep only 14.9C. Most UK locations don't have much of a difference between the two.
That's going by the 1971-2000 averages, 1981-2010 is warmer still at 16.8°C for June vs 15.5°C for September. April-June is normally the sunniest season here and autumn is cloudy which is why the June temperature is higher.
September is a lot cloudier than Apr-Aug in London as well yet the temperatures are not much different (21C for June and 20C for September). Leeds has even less of a difference (18.8C in June and 18.0C in September). Southampton averages 20.2C in June and 19.8C in September and also has a much duller Sept than Apr-Aug (that can be attributed to coastal influence though).
Yeah September and June here are very, very similar and September is more like summer than autumn, the early part at least, especially in recent years. June is probably more capable of cold temperatures though despite the longer days.
I remember going back to school after the summer holidays and it always seemed to be better weather than July and August! It seemed like every year early September at least, was always hot.
Well Buxton must have some strong micro-climate effects causing this difference. In my personal records here in recent years June has an avg max of 17.1°C and September 15.7°C so the same difference is evident as in the met office 30-yr records.
Rain is supposed to start freezing right about now, but according to the radar, my area will only get about 1 hour of freezing rain. Toronto is supposed to get more.
Warm sunshine at 15 degrees? Doubt it. Warm here though. 23°C. Well, in my computer room. But I hate indoor heat. It feels dry and irritating and puts me into a coma.
