The Great Lakes region and N.E. are getting tons of votes, but really don't even come close to the mountain west. The Colorado, Utah, Montana mountains get TONS of snow. As does the entire west coast. When I moved to California in 2006, the Tahoe area got over 600" of snow that year.

lol. I don't live there. I wish! I actually used to live in San Jose and drove up to Tahoe several times. It would be awesome to live there. Unless you didn't have a snow blower.

You posted this last year...I'm jusst now seeing it. The winde that blowes and swirls off the great lakes causes a MAJOR snw belt on the northern east coast especially. The cities right on the coast don't get as much as the cities that are 10 miles in. The cities and towns that are coastal are kept a little warmer by the water.

That's an insane amount of snow without being up in the mountains.

But that's the UP of Michigan for 'ya.

If I recall correctly, for several years your lake effect snow machine seemed as though it had been turned off.....until about 2 or 3 years ago.
Ever since......I have really noticed that the entire Great Lakes region.....and especially, Michigan......has returned to its former....and more notorious self, in the winter.
But it really is to be expected and especially in the UP....land of Yooper scoopers, snowmobiles, ice fishing and mosquitos that can swoop down and carry your horsefly-bitten butt off.
Other than the Great Lakes region....and over to upstate NY, along the shores of Lk. Ontario......Buffalo and Watertown sure come to mind for lots of snow.
Out west.....of course the Sierra Nevada range (Truckee, CA / Lk. Tahoe).....the Colorado Rockies, Utah (Wasatch & Uintah ranges), Tetons of Wyoming, north/central Idaho, NW Montana and especially.....the Cascades of WA and Oregon....where Mt. Baker (east of Bellingham, WA).....recorded nearly 1,200 INCHES of snow in the 1998-99 season, I believe. When they plow the North Cascades Highway each May-July......it is not uncommon for snow depths on the road of 50+ FEET....which is why the road is closed all winter long.
Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood gets BURIED.....just like in the movie (Shining).

You're right about the snow machine! We had some easy winters then 07/08 and 08/09 arrived! I moved to Two Rivers, Wisc. Fall of '07 and everyone said, we have easy winters here by the lake!

I believed them, not thinking the 2 previous years winters had been relatively tame in NE Illinois, too! Welcome to Wisconsin and double the amount of snow 90 inches instead of 40 or so, both years! What a hoot!!! Of course, not even close to some areas of the UP, which is why I'm here and not up by my sister!!!
