OMG Lumumba, thank you SO much for posting those pics. Could you tell me which ones are specifically in the Ukraine? Your second post~the one with palm trees~is that near Odessa?
Steve, they look like weather pics~the beach and the warmth and the greenery. I had asked Lumumba if he'd post some pics for us. My Grandfather and his family came from Russia and I've rarely gotten to see any pics of it.

it would be better if there is a possibility to devide the rows of pictures by blocks of text so that one could tell what each picture means...
anyway, the first post - all from Odessa, not much though, I just stopped by there, the 2-3 ones are from (not exactly sure how to spell its name) Krim - a peninsula on the South, Yevpatoria, Yalta, not far from Odessa

The weather patterns must be unusually warm there, if I remember correctly, the Crimean Peninsula is at about the same latitude as Chicago.

Well, if I understand correctly, that means my ancestors had a beach nearby. Hence my draw to tropical settings.
Daryl, I wasn't aware of it until a few months ago either, but I understand that Odessa is sort of the banana belt of Russia. Bet the people who left there and settled up here were pretty shocked those first few winters.

I can add that Odessa is a kind of a native city of sense of humor, people from there are expected to be funny and you might've heard about Ostap Bender - the lieutenant Smidt's son, "Golden Calf", "12 chairs" - all came from Odessa.
