England is meant to be pounded by thunderstorms this evening and overnight. I am not in the thunderstorm zone though unfortunately!!

The forecast text:

Alert details:
An area of low pressure will move towards the UK from the southwest during Monday, destabilising the atmosphere and bringing an increasing risk of heavy rainfall and storms.

Scattered heavy showers, with a risk of storms will develop during the into parts of south and southwest England, spreading into other parts of the southern half of England, Wales and perhaps Northwest England during the latter part of the morning and afternoon.

During the late afternoon, further heavy rain and storms will move into southwestern England, bringing the threat of localised flooding, frequent lightning, hail and gusting winds. This will spread into other parts of southern England, Wales, the Midlands and possibly northern England during the evening and overnight. Rainfall totals in excess of 25-35mm are probable in places with totals possibly exceeding 50mm in isolated cases, which is likely to lead to some localised flooding and difficult travel conditions.

AND FROM THE MET OFFICE...

UK regions: East of England Wales South West England West Midlands London & South East England Heavy Rain Tue 29 Jul There is a moderate risk of a severe weather event affecting Wales and parts of the southern half of England. A band of heavy, thundery rain is expected to push northwards over eastern parts in the early hours, clearing by morning, and during the day heavy thundery downpours will develop in western areas.

Storms forecast for the west of England (West Midlands) today and tomorrow. I will be in the area on the 31st and hope to catch something.

Meanwhile people in the West Midlands are "recovering" from severe thunderstorms last night starting fires, flash flooding, large hail and power cuts. Nice.
