Updated at: 7:12pm

Monday Evening: The high pressure system will be south to southeast of Tasmania. No thunderstorms.

Tuesday: The high pressure system will remain east of Tasmania extending into the Tasman Sea. No thunderstorms.

EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Wednesday: The high pressure system is likely to remain east of Tasmania, extending into the Tasman Sea. No thunderstorms are expected.

Thursday: The high pressure system will remain in the Tasman Sea. Its likely a low pressure system will develop in the Great Australian Bight during the day with a strong cold front extending east of that to enter the west of the state at night. Isolated thunderstorms are a slight risk ahead of the front. No severe thunderstorms.

Friday: High pressure is likely to develop over Western Australia. The strong cold front should move over western districts during the early morning and then reach the east later in the day. The low may dissipate. Isolated thunderstorms are possible ahead and with the front. No severe activity.

Saturday: A new high pressure system will move south of Western Australia. Its possible a new front will approach Victoria. No thunderstorms expected.

Sunday: High pressure should remain over Western Australia. The second cold front should burst through the state and there is the risk for isolated cold-cored thunderstorms following it.

Monday: The high pressure system will remain over Western Australia, extending over the Australian inland. Models are diverging on whether or not another low pressure system will develop near Victoria, however at this stage no thunderstorms are expected.

Tuesday: The high pressure system will remain over the Australian inland, extending into the Great Australian Bight. Its likely some sort of disturbance will be over Victoria. No thunderstorms at this stage.

Still no thunderstorms this year!

However, netweather says a 35% chance of a thunderstorm tomorrow.

This may well be "downgraded" again though. We shall see. I am too scared to look at the next forecast update!! I will just let it take me by surprise.

Possible for us tonight, but they say scattered??? Isn't it scattered showers, I'm not sure I've heard it in connection with thunderstorms maybe a Wisconsin thing.

Its the same term susancruzs. 'Scattered showers' and 'scattered thunderstorms' both means tere will be a 'few' around. Whilst isolated means 'one or two'. Widespread should be obvious.

Victoria, Australia
THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL OUTLOOK
Updated at: 6:06pm

Saturday Evening: The high pressure system will remain west of Western Australia, extending over the inland parts of that state. A low will remain west of Tasmania tonight, strengthening overnight. Isolated thunderstorms remain a high risk across all areas of the state, and some are currently being observed over the northern and central districts, and earlier this afternoon thunderstorms developed over the southwest. The Bureau of meteorology has also issued a severe thunderstorm warning - damaging winds, large hailstones and flash flooding is the biggest concern.

Sunday: High pressure will be south and west of Western Australia. It is likely a strong low pressure system will move over Tasmania, extending into Victoria. The cold front will also move out of the state. Isolated cold-cored thunderstorms are possible anywhere generally, but mostly in the south where large hailstones may develop thanks to the freezing level lowering to 5,000ft.

EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Monday: The high pressure system will extend over the Australian mainland. It is likely the low pressure system will move to southeast of Tasmania, not affecting Victoria, however a low pressure trough will move into the west of the state. Isolated thunderstorms remain possible, mostly in the south. No severe thunderstorms

Tuesday: The high pressure system will remain over the Australian mainland, extending into the Great Australian Bight and Victoria with a ridge. The trough should have moved out of the state. No thunderstorms are expected.

Wednesday: The high pressure system should remain over the Australian mainland and extend into the Great Australian Bight. A cut-off low should develop south of the state. Isolated thunderstorms become another good possibility through the state, particularly south. Small risk for severe thunderstorms.

Thursday: The high pressure system will move over the southeast of the continent. The low should have been pushed away from Victoria. No thunderstorms.

Friday: The high pressure system will remain over New South Wales and the Tasman Sea. A weak cold front is likely to move into the state during the day. No thunderstorms.

Saturday: Another high pressure system will move into the Great Australian Bight, extending a ridge over Victoria. No thunderstorms.

Sunday: Models are diverging for Sunday. The most likely scenario is for a high pressure system to remain stationary in the Great Australian Bight as some type of dusturbance developed near Victoria. No thunderstorms at this stage.

NEXT UPDATE: Sunday, 5:00pm-7:00pm
